SAN DIEGO — For some residents of San Diego, finding affordable home can be challenging.
Many people are looking for alternatives to buying a home because housing affordability is at an all-time low.
The San Diego Housing Commission and the Housing Authority of the County of San Diego each have a number of waiting lists for assistance programs that people can apply for.
The two groups state that those who apply will be put on waiting lists ordered by the date and time the application was submitted by order of preferences, albeit there is no assurance that they will be chosen to get subsidized housing.
To clarify, this means that candidates will be chosen to fill positions based on selected criteria for each waiting list. These preferences, for instance, could be taken into account:
Do they reside in San Diego or do they work there?
— Does the applicant represent a household with two or more adults and one or more children?
— Is the applicant over 62 years of age and deemed elderly?
— Is the applicant a former service member or an active duty service member?
— Does the applicant fear losing their home?
