850 Apartments Planned for Fashion Valley Mall as JCPenney Closes

Live at Fashion Valley Mall?

Fashion Valley Mall, a beloved shopping destination in San Diego, is set for a major transformation. Simon Property Group, the mall’s owner, announced plans to build 850 high-end apartments on the site, including new retail space, restaurants, and green spaces.

The redevelopment will be located where the JCPenney store currently stands. This project is part of a broader trend of integrating residential units with retail spaces. Simon’s president, Mark Silvestri, highlighted the goal of creating a walkable, luxurious community.

Despite the closure of JCPenney, the plan reflects Simon’s commitment to evolving Fashion Valley into a sophisticated living environment. The city has yet to receive the formal application for this development, but the planning process is underway, with necessary studies forthcoming.
