San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) customers will be getting some relief on their October electric bills. The utility company announced that all residential customers will receive a $78.22 credit, automatically applied to this month’s statement. This credit comes as part of California’s statewide initiative to reduce emissions and support ratepayers.
The discount is funded by the California Climate Credit program, which is tied to the state’s cap-and-trade program. Under this system, utility companies receive emission allowances. If they reduce their emissions, they can sell these allowances and distribute the proceeds to customers or fund clean energy projects. The electric bill credit is issued twice a year, in April and October.
This credit marks the fourth-largest among California’s investor-owned utility companies, with Pacific Power customers receiving the largest credit at $174.25. SDG&E customers, however, are still benefiting from a significant reduction in their October bills. No additional steps are needed – just sit back and enjoy the savings!
